he is my Muse.
The shadow of a smile will cross his lips, and probably some day he will abate the points of his barbed arrows, in face of timid foreign rhymer. Gold in the blue. Bijou-like poems. A sunless coral palace from a book. The journey downwards the fading sun. A Doric temple by the water's edge. The rest is trumpery.

Grand DesignsThe priest wearing a long dark array from top to toe was reading aloud the solemn incantations. The ornament of mysterious signs over his ritual array was carefully elaborated. The vaults of the cave had not the former pomposity, but they still trilled impressible minds: the frescos of scenes of the initiation to a weird cult, a rose-crowned matron sitting in a chariot drawn by lions in the central fresco, the filigree of capitals of the pilasters. A small saline lake there was in the middle of the cave. Bubbles appeared on the surface of the lake from time to time. The air smelled of sulphur. remake…As far as I can recall, it all began at one of the houses of Pompeii. I can’t forget that hot, windless day, the silence of the Alley of Tombs that voices of the Englishmen disturbed, the crimson oleanders in the garden, and the boy in black who was standing in the middle of a small group of men. The Alley of Tombs went along the walls of Pompeii; beginning from the Gates of Herculaneum it sloped down like a narrow slabbed furrow between two pavements. Lining it the old cypresses lent an illusion of life to this street of the dead. Not surrendering to time, the ancient vaults looked like a forsaken suburb. Theremake
